Real Rural Wales

As a photographer I’m incredibly fortunate to live in beautiful rural West Wales. It’s a stunning place to live and work, and is a place that’s been photographed thousands of times over the years.  The landscape is one of the main focuses for tourism in terms of marketing in this part of the world and for obvious and good reason.

However I wanted to document another side of this part of Wales, “Real Rural Wales” as a project aims to capture a collection of different images from life “out West”. As an artist with this project I’m not trying to make comment on this part of the world, just aiming to show a different side to life here, one a little different to the highly polished glossy tourism images that are so often used.  I want to tell a story of something different, a perhaps more honest view of life here and taken in the less fashionable parts of the region.

The project will run throughout 2024 with the aim of finding it a home in the form of an exhibition in early 2025. Featuring 20-30 images that come together to help tell that story, here’s a few to give a sense of the direction I’m wanting to take this in but also leaving enough space to see what grabs my attention over the next 12 months.
